La Financière Responsable (LFR), a French investment management firm specializing in environmental social and governance (ESG) criteria, shares the keys to its success in 2020—a year of complexity and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic—and highlights the synergies achieved with MAPFRE AM.

In an article signed by Olivier Johanet and published in Club Patrimoine—a specialist portal for equity experts—the president of LFR extolled “the shared management and distribution” of funds and the value offered by MAPFRE AM Capital Responsable, which has received the SRI Label for socially responsible investing, sponsored by the French Ministry of Finance. MAPFRE AM is the only Spanish investment manager to have received this prestigious French label.

Peace of mind for the future

At the end of 2017, MAPFRE AM, MAPFRE’s asset manager, purchased 25 percent of LFR’s capital, thereby securing an exclusive strategy and methodology for selecting investments and applying ESG criteria to new products, as well as to the rest of the group’s range of funds and balance sheet.
“When we approached LFR, it was because we wanted to approach SRI differently, to not just make use of external sources. They had their own methodology,” recalled Eduardo Ripollés, Institutional Sales Director at MAPFRE AM.

In spite of 2020’s many difficulties, LFR’s annual returns were 10–14.5 percent higher than the market average. This result means that the firm to can “face the future with peace of mind” and is attributed to its experience in “selecting growth stocks in a coherent and structured way, with a proven methodology and extensive knowledge of the companies involved.”

With LFR as an ally, MAPFRE AM’s socially responsible investing strategy will continue to add to the Group’s commitment to sustainability. In addition to LFR, MAPFRE has strategic agreements related to asset management in place with Abante and Boyar AM.

MAPFRE recently featured in The Sustainability Yearbook 2021 for the second year in a row. Developed by S&P Global, it ranks the world’s largest companies based on environmental, social and governance criteria. MAPFRE is the only insurance company in Spain to feature in this ranking.
