This week, Fundación MAPFRE presented the President of Guatemala with a machine that can manufacture between 60,000 and 80,000 masks every day for distribution among the country’s citizens. The company has already allocated 475,000 euros for the purchase of medical supplies and equipment in the country.

This week, the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei received a semi-automatic machine donated by Fundación MAPFRE. The machine will manufacture up to 3 million masks — between 60,000 and 80,000 a day.

The masks will be made from material provided by Guatemala’s Ministry of Health and will be distributed to citizens in an effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In return, the President of the Republic thanked Fundación MAPFRE for making this donation possible, which will undoubtedly help Guatemala in its fight against the pandemic. “It’s the difference between giving someone a fish and teaching them how to fish,” said Julio del Cid, Head of Fundación MAPFRE in Guatemala at the event, which was also attended by Alfonso Portabales, Ambassador of Spain to Guatemala, and Rafael Briz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MAPFRE Seguros Guatemala.

To date, Fundación MAPFRE has allocated 475,000 euros for the purchase of medical supplies and equipment in Guatemala. The event also highlighted the company’s support in executing a project to install electrical wiring and a sewage and sludge treatment system at Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa Hospital.
