MAPFRE and Escuela FEF have reached an agreement to provide training on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues to more than 700 company professionals who provide financial advice and who are already certified under MiFID II.

The Escuela de la Fundación de Estudios Financieros (Foundation for Financial Studies training center — Escuela FEF) and MAPFRE reached an agreement whereby professionals at the insurance group who provide financial advice and who are already certified under MiFID II will participate in the ESG Essentials course starting in May.

The fully online course aims to train professionals on ESG issues with content that includes case study simulations. Program participants will be able to take the online exam to be awarded the new ESG Essentials certification, launched by the European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies (EFFAS), the world leader in financial certifications on ESG. The course will train MAPFRE participants on the issues they need to master in order to advise their clients on sustainable finance — the social and environmental impact and good governance practices when it comes to investment and financial products. As such, MAPFRE maintains its clear commitment to offering the best training to its professionals in order to provide the best advisory service to its clients.

In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/2088, market participants and financial advisors must report on the integration of sustainability risks and the analysis of adverse effects with respect to financial products.

European regulation aims to encourage investment in activities that promote a lower carbon economy and meet the EU’s economic recovery and sustainable development goals. This is a growing trend around the world with ESG aspects being incorporated into investment and finance decision-making processes, mainly due to improved return on investment.

Escuela FEF is the only training center in Spain accredited by the Instituto Español de Analistas Financieros (Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts — IEAF) to offer preparatory courses for exams for the leading international ESG certifications. EFFAS is the world’s leading organization in implementing these qualifications, which are promoted in our country by the EFFAS representative, the IEAF’s FEF.

MAPFRE is the benchmark insurer in the Spanish market and leader in the Automobile, Homeowners and Business lines, among others, with more than 7 million clients, around 11,000 employees in Spain and roughly 3,000 branches distributed throughout the country, which offer personalized advice to its clients. In 2020, premiums in Spain exceeded 6.86 billion euros, or 445 million euros after taxes.
