  • MAPFRE relies on the talent and commitment of people regardless of their gender.
  • The company employs more than 18,500 women, representing more than 55% of the workforce. More than 41% of them hold job positions of responsibility.
  • MAPFRE is committed to the fact that at least 45% of annual openings in senior positions be filled by women.
  • Among the main initiatives to progress in gender equality (SDG 5) are the Women’s Leadership Network and ClosinGap.

MAPFRE announced today that it is one of 418 companies in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index 2022, which measures gender equality across five pillars: female leadership and talent pipeline; gender equality and wage parity; inclusive culture; anti-sexual harassment policies; and pro-women branding.

For the second consecutive year, the insurer appears in this year’s index having scored within the overall threshold established by Bloomberg, which reflects disclosure and achievement or adoption of best policies in the five pillars analyzed.

Breaking barriers

MAPFRE relies on the talent and commitment of people regardless of their gender. The company believes that equality is not just a matter of justice, but fundamental for the progress of society, for companies to be more competitive and also for the development and happiness of individuals.

In this progress towards gender equality, the company has worked to create a favorable environment so that all MAPFRE people can contribute their talent, without gender or any other type of discrimination.

55.6% of the workforce

MAPFRE has a Diversity and Equal Opportunities Policy, which aims to build a culture of respect for people, consolidate diversity-friendly behaviors and attitudes, as well as ensuring truly equal opportunities.

Currently, the company has more than 18,500 talented women representing more than 55% of the workforce, more than 41% of them are in positions of responsibility. The company also complies with one of its main commitments in terms of gender equality; at least 45% of annual openings in positions of responsibility should be filled by women. In 2021, this portion was 49.1%.

Women’s Leadership Network and ClosinGap

Among the main initiatives that contribute to developing gender equality in the company is the MAPFRE Women’s Leadership Network, present in countries such as Spain, Brazil, the United States, Mexico and Turkey, to increase the presence of women in positions of responsibility in which they are underrepresented. It has a specific plan to eliminate the wage gap and promote STEAM careers among girls; and for years has been participating in ClosinGap, a cluster of 12 companies that analyzes the economic impact of the fact that women do not have the same opportunities in areas such as pensions, consumption, employment and education, among others.

UN Women and Target Gender Equality

Two years ago, MAPFRE signed up to the UN Women Principles, the United Nations organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women, to which a total of 3,139 companies around the world currently belong. The principles include establishing high-level corporate leadership for gender equality; treating all women and men fairly at work; and respecting and supporting human rights and non-discrimination.

As a member of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, MAPFRE has also joined the Target Gender Equality accelerator program, an initiative to accelerate progress on SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
