MAPFRE recognizes its socially responsible performance and, as a result, establishes criteria associated with sustainability and providing a service to society for its adequate development and progress.
MAPFRE's desire to become a leader and its global commitment inspire, as in the other Group activities, the actions related to the Environment and Sustainability. This commitment, based on the Group's Environmental Policy, which initially focused on the prevention of contamination and protecting the environment, has undergone a number of reviews to incorporate underwriting to new commitments adapted to the environment and internal requirements as well as those of the stakeholders:
- energy management criteria
- climate change management
- preservation of biodiversity
As a signatory of the Sustainable Insurance Principles promoted by the United Nations Environment Program and, observing the requirements of the environment and its stakeholders, MAPFRE seeks to bring into business management, as a risk and an opportunity, environmental aspects such as climate change, the protection of biodiversity and ecosystem degradation, water management and pollution.
Proof of this is the creation of specific insurance products, for both projects associated with sustainable development and to manage environmental risks.
Therefore, MAPFRE has establish multidisciplinary work teams to seek for insurance solutions to real and future challenges, giving a response to the current transformation of the markets, as well as to the new needs identified by clients, in relation to the new environmental risk scenarios.
