Six warning signs that you should distrust bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

Many young people have decided to invest in cryptocurrencies without doing the corresponding research. Alberto Matellán, chief economist at MAPFRE Inversión, offers a variety of tips for the less-experienced investor and cautions that recent events are showing that this phenomenon “is more like a gamble than an investment”.

After closing out a first half marked by growth and high expectations, the markets are facing the second half of the year with their eyes firmly set on expanding the delta variant. On Radio Intereconomía, Alberto Matellán, chief economist of MAPFRE Inversión, points out that the impact of COVID-19 on the tourism sector will be reduced, thanks to how the economy has adapted to the situation.

Directing investments through ESG criteria

Sustainability is creeping into corporate investment decisions as a topic of debate. José Luis Jiménez, MAPFRE’s group chief investment officer, took part in the Wealth Management and Sustainability event organized by the IEAF and the San Pablo Andalucía CEU Foundation, and stressed that, in order to maintain sustainable growth, investments must be made with a sustainable, social and governance approach.

‘Taper Tantrum’

Investors are focusing more on other issues after the taper tantrum faded away and the narrative market paid too much attention to the Fed’s monetary policy. Alberto Matellán, chief economist, assesses that asset values are currently depending more on growth and inflation than on central banks decisions.
