This past Friday, Mapfre Global Risks concluded the XXX edition of its International Seminar, one of the main events in the global major risks sector. With more than 500 participants from nearly 30 countries, the forum addressed issues such as technological challenges and the complexities of global logistics, in a context marked by geopolitical uncertainty.
Held in Cáceres, the Seminar served, over three days, as a meeting point and forum for discussion for executives, experts, and risk managers from sectors such as energy, maritime transport, aviation and space, and major infrastructure, as well as insurance. Participants analyzed how the current international environment is redefining the landscape of major risks and the insurance sector’s response.
Mapfre CEO, Antonio Huertas, emphasized that “we live in a global environment marked by the uncertainty and complexity of threats of various kinds, a context in which comprehensive risk management becomes an essential strategic element for companies.” Mapfre Global Risks is “the key ally for companies operating in critical sectors of the economy, as it provides stability, protection, and the ability to respond to volatile and demanding scenarios,” Huertas stated.
Bosco Francoy, CEO of Mapfre Global Risks, emphasized the educational vocation of this event and its commitment to a concept of insurance focused on prevention, beyond the compensation for claims. He highlighted how the organization fosters this culture by recognizing the role of the risk manager, promoting collaboration with national and international large-risk insurance associations, and supporting the development of new entities in Latin America.
For her part, the president of the Regional Government of Extremadura, María Guardiola, pointed out that the election of Cáceres for these workshops reflects the “the importance of the identity, heritage, and culture of a place.” In this regard, Guardiola highlighted that Extremadura has, over these days, become the epicenter of the insurance business and risk management. This, together with the announced Iberian Network, “completes a bond.” “Mapfre and Cáceres have joined hands in culture and business.” Likewise, Guardiola stated that in the face of uncertainty, “anchors, reliable companies, and institutions are needed.”
Over three days, the various panel discussions and presentations addressed topics including cyber risk management and insurance; the evolution and risks of data centers; maritime and logistics corridors and the role of critical infrastructure; electrification, geopolitics, and sustainability; and military defense and the protection of global strategic systems.
Additionally, the 5th International Award for Excellence in Risk Management was presented to Progreso, a leading company in cement, materials, and construction solutions, with business units in the construction, agro, energy, and real estate development sectors, recognized for its focus on innovation and sustainability in the region. The award, which is already a benchmark within the global risks insurance industry, was present by Eduardo Pérez de Lema, Chairman of Mapfre Global Risks, to Stephanie Melville Molina, from the company’s Board of Directors.
