Mapfre has reached an agreement to take a stake in Tuio, the specialist digital insurance distributor that leverages advanced technological capabilities and significant artificial intelligence (AI) maturity in its business model.

The agreement will allow Tuio, which currently operates in Spain, to continue driving its innovative capabilities and accelerate development of its advanced digital model in new markets in Latin America and Europe, where Mapfre already has a presence.

The insurance group will acquire 38.9% of Tuio’s share capital, which will be structured through the direct purchase of shares from certain shareholders and subsequent participation in a capital increase.

Tuio was the first insurance app in the world to be integrated within ChatGPT for the sale of insurance products. Since its integration in early February, the company now generates more than 20% of its new clients through AI assistants.

The transaction responds to Mapfre’s conviction that AI in general and agentic AI in particular represent a far-reaching technological change for the insurance industry and for the broader digital economy. This investment gives Mapfre the opportunity to strengthen its commitment to more agile, personalized distribution models connected to new consumer needs, combining technological potential with the differentiating value of human advice. Mapfre also considers that applying AI can help reduce the insurance protection gap by facilitating insurance access for traditionally underserved groups.

Founded in 2021 in Spain, Tuio has developed a business model supported by technology, digitalization, and the advanced use of agentic AI applied to insurance processes, with a presence in various lines of business and a value proposition that’s focused on simplicity, efficiency, and the customer’s digital experience.

Mapfre’s purchase of a stake in Tuio amounts to a significant show of support for the company’s business project and underpins both its growth plans in Spain and its international expansion. The transaction will accelerate development of new technological capabilities and consolidate Tuio’s expansion, while maintaining its principles of innovation, agility, and digital specialization, which have characterized its evolution from day one.

The transaction is subject to the regulatory authorizations that may apply.
