Mapfre Re has risen to 12th place among the world’s largest reinsurers, as per the 2026 edition of the international benchmark ranking compiled by S&P Global Ratings. The company has improved by one position compared to the previous year, further consolidating its standing among the world’s top reinsurance groups.
This advancement in the ranking is accompanied by strong business growth: in 2025, Mapfre Re, which combines the Mapfre Group’s reinsurance and global risks businesses, delivered record results, reporting 381 million euros in net earnings on premiums of 8.4 billion, driven by stable market conditions and the absence of major catastrophic events.
The S&P Global Ratings ranking, based on data from 128 reinsurance groups across 29 countries, once again places Mapfre Re among the global leaders in the sector. Its rise to 12th position confirms the success of the company’s profitable growth strategy and reinforces its ability to support insurers and large clients in covering increasingly complex risks worldwide.
Mapfre Re’s performance has also contributed to strengthening Spain’s position in the global reinsurance market. According to the report, the Spanish reinsurance market’s aggregate premium volume surpassed 10.2 billion dollars in 2025, of which Mapfre Re accounted for more than 90%.
More recently, S&P upgraded Mapfre Re’s financial strength rating from A+ to AA- with a stable outlook. The upgrade was supported by the Group’s stronger capital position, improved earnings generation, underwriting discipline, and the resilience of its balance sheet.
