Mapfre will submit the appointment of Marta Silva de Lapuerta as an independent board director of Mapfre S.A. to the next Annual General Meeting. She will replace Antonio Gómez Ciria on the board, who will reach the maximum statutory age for membership of the body on March 25.
Marta Silva has been a State’s Attorney in Spain since 1996 and has enjoyed a long professional career in public administration, and also has extensive experience in the enterprise and economic sectors.
She served as State’s Attorney General and Director of State Legal Services, and previously held the roles of Director of the Legal Advisory Office of the Presidency of the Court of Auditors and State’s Attorney at the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy.
She has also been a board director of various public companies, including Sociedad Estatal de Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, Spain’s national lottery and gaming body, and has held prominent positions in the private sector. She also has significant experience in the insurance industry.
This appointment, which was proposed by Mapfre’s Appointments and Remuneration Committee, and is based on the analysis of the Board of Directors’ competency matrix, underpins the legal profile of the company’s board.
Marta Silva de Lapuerta holds a degree in law from the Complutense University of Madrid and has completed doctoral courses in civil and commercial law. In 1996, she joined the ranks of Spain’s State’s Attorneys, holding, among other positions, the roles of Director of the Legal Advisory Office of the Presidency of the Court of Auditors and State’s Attorney at the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy.
Subsequently, she held the position of General Counsel and member of the Board of Directors of Sacyr Vallehermoso, S.A. and was General Manager of its Legal Department (2003-2009). She served as Secretary to the Board of Directors of Real Madrid and was on the Board of Trustees of Fundación Real Madrid (2000-2006).
She later served as State’s Attorney before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of Spain’s National Court (2009-2012 and 2016-2018) and as State’s Attorney General and Director of State Legal Service (2012-2016), participating in expert commissions established to develop significant regulatory reforms (such as the draft Organic Law of the Judiciary and the 2014 reform of the Companies Act and the Unified Code of Good Corporate Governance).
Since 2018, she has served as General Counsel of CESCE Group (Spain’s export credit insurance company), where she leads its legal department and is responsible for Secretary function of the Board of Directors and its committees.
