MAPFRE has just signed an agreement with Mercado Libre, a leading ecommerce company in Latin America, and the startup Pitzi to provide a new cellphone insurance offering in Brazil. The product, which covers device theft and damage, will be available from November to the more than 20 million clients who use the platform.

Clients will be able to manage the contract entirely digitally and can choose to pay by bank transfer, by debit or credit card through their Mercado Pago account or alternatively via the Mercado Libre marketplace. The idea is to offer the insurance product together with the device, thereby simplifying the process.

“We’ll be offering a product that is very attractive in terms of cost and coverage. This will help to democratize access to cellphone insurance through Mercado Libre, which is Latin American’s largest marketplace,” announced Alex Frederico Dias, Sales and Distribution Agreements Manager at MAPFRE Brazil.

Looking to the future, the plan is to expand product offerings through digital channels, keeping on top of the trend toward online purchases. “This agreement will help ensure we are better prepared for the digital revolution, complementing the products we offer through more traditional channels,” highlighted Dias.

“The partnership with Mercado Libre and Pitzi enables us to take a huge step forward in capturing more of the cellphone insurance market. These agreements will undoubtedly bear many fruits for us, making us a market leader in this segment,” outlined Patricia Siequeroli, Technical Manager at Seguros Gerais at MAPFRE Brazil.
