Elena Sanz, CEO of Mapfre Iberia, has been honored with the prestigious Women in Insurance Award, granted by The Geneva Association during its 53rd General Assembly, held last week in Madrid. This recognition highlights her trajectory of more than three decades at Mapfre and her transformative leadership in an environment marked by significant challenges for the insurance industry.
The Geneva Association, which brings together the main CEOs of insurance and reinsurance companies worldwide, stressed Elena Sanz’s people-centered leadership approach, as well as her ability to combine it with solid and effective operational management.
Lee Yuan Siong, Former Chair of the Geneva Association, emphasized that “Elena Sanz’s leadership exemplifies the qualities our sector must demonstrate when operational resilience is essential,” highlighting her contribution to strengthening communities’ ability to manage risks, absorb impacts, and recover with confidence.
For her part, Elena Sanz expressed her appreciation upon receiving the award, noting that this recognition is the result of collective work: “I am deeply honored by this recognition for my long career at Mapfre. For more than 30 years, I have grown personally and professionally alongside amazing colleagues, in an industry that has the greatest potential to transform people’s lives.”
During the ceremony, Sanz also wanted to underscore the purpose of the insurance industry and the commitment of those who are part of it: “Our work allows us to be close to people, businesses, and communities. We help them grow, protect them when they need it, and contribute to building a better future.”
Madrid brought together the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance executives from June 4 to 5 for the 53rd General Assembly of The Geneva Association, held under the theme “A World Under Strain: Resilience Amid Fragmentation.” Mapfre, BBVA Seguros, and VidaCaixa served as hosts.
For two days, the presidents and CEOs of major global companies, along with institutional representatives and international experts, analyzed the major economic, geopolitical, and social challenges that are redefining the global context.
