Alpine unveils new A522, its best-kept secret

As one of the team’s top sponsors, MAPFRE has its logo prominently displayed on the sides and front of the car as well as on the drivers’ uniforms.

Yesterday in Paris, the BWT Alpine F1 Team officially revealed their new A522 to the world, marking the start of a new era ahead of the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, which kicks off on March 20 in Bahrain.

BWT Alpine F1 Team’s second Formula 1 car was unveiled by Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi, Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, as well as new team principal Otmar Szafnauer.  

Alpine staff have worked tirelessly over the last 18 months to adapt the new A522 to the rule changes introduced for the 2022 Championship. The team will aim to make further progress this year after impressing in their debut F1 year in 2021. 

For its second season, the BWT Alpine F1 Team is maintaining the same driver line-up: Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, a two-time world champion embarking on his 20th and potentially record-breaking Formula 1 season. Oscar Piastri is the team’s official reserve driver for 2022, having won the FIA ​​Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship in 2021.

Today Ocon and Alonso will have the opportunity to test the A522 at the Circuit de Catalunya, Spain, before embarking on pre-season testing. “It’s always a privilege to drive a new Formula 1 car for the first time as you know all the hard work that goes into it.” 

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso shared during yesterday’s event his wish that the new regulations will result in “more exciting races this year.”
