The behaviour of fire in vehicles, whatever the type of fire, is conditioned by a high number of parameters: these depend on the type of vehicle undergoing the fire, on its working conditions, on the materials involved (both if it is a matter of primary flammable materials and of secondary ones), on the environmental conditions, as well as on other surrounding conditions which, in many cases, are complicated to identify.

This is why CESVIMAP has been carrying out
research into this area for more than fifteen years,
with the aim of reaching valid conclusions in order to
pinpoint the origin of the fire in the vehicle, and
analyse the causes behind it and its subsequent evolution.
CESVIMAP’s work in the area of fire has evolved
through research into different types of vehicles or
self-propelled machinery which have suffered this type
of damage. This work aims to combine the most thorough
knowledge of the way fire behaves with all the technical
characteristics of the vehicles and machinery which may
have been directly or indirectly involved in the fires.
This line of research has been undertaken along two
simultaneous paths:
The service which CESVIMAP has been
offering manufacturers of all types of vehicles and
machinery, insurance companies, appraisal offices, legal
firms, law courts, other companies and private
individuals, comprises the undertaking of the study and
analysis of the fire for the preparation of the
corresponding technical report, as well as the
subsequent legal defence if so required.
