The research undertaken by CESVIMAP approaches fires on the basis of experiments carried out on complete vehicles and their elements, in order to acquire the practical know-how needed to complement properly the theoretical preparation for this topic area.
To do this, fire tests are carried out under
different circumstances, reproducing the real situations
and comparing, in this way, the conditions arising in
the fires to be investigated, and which technicians are
always obliged to analyse a posteriori.
Vehicles are subjected to tests, with simulation
of mechanical and electrical failures, and different
types of deliberate fires are provoked with accelerants.
The elements mounted on vehicles and machinery
under investigation are also subjected to fire tests, in
order to analyse the way their materials behave, the
remains subsequent to the fire, the effects of the
extinction operation, and the marks left by the fire,
among other aspects. In this way, the greatest possible
knowledge is acquired of the origin, effect, behaviour,
evolution and marks of a fire on any element of a
vehicle, in a direct manner. All this leads to higher
quality training for the researchers at CESVIMAP
for the moment when they have to investigate any fire in
which a vehicle or machine has been involved.
