JOSÉ MANUEL MARTÍNEZ
President of MAPFRE and FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE
The editors of this review, whose first edition
came out back in 1983, have given me the
chance to address its readers to mark the happy
coincidence of its 25th anniversary with the
75th birthday of MAPFRE.We are celebrating here one of
the most fertile communication projects of FUNDACIÓN
MAPFRE which, ever since it was set up in 1975, has been
working away dauntlessly in such areas as the promotion of
safety and risk mitigation.
We have now entered the twenty first century and a new millennium, beset by sweeping transformations of a technological, social and environmental nature. We in the insurance industry need to make sure we are capable of dealing with these new challenges, working from the knowledge built up on risk management over recent years and continually bringing this knowledge to the attention of a wider audience.
Even after such a resoundingly successful 25-year track record, however, there is no room or desire here for backward-looking smugness. We need to look continually to the future, rising to these new challenges, keeping abreast of the trends and heading off the problems. For this very reason I urge old and new readers alike to send in their own contributions, turning themselves from assiduous readers into authors and ipso facto co-managers of this publication.
into authors and ipso facto co-managers of this publication.
As is MAPFRE’s wont, these new projects will be
tackled from the standpoint of community service, above
all, but without thereby spurning development
opportunities towards new clients and countries. I urge
those responsible to introduce the best management
technologies so that this review, as a living project renewing
itself in each edition, never lags behind the headlong
changes that are now the very fabric of the globalised world
we all live in.
In sum, there should be no lack of ideas, projects, challenges, excitement. We need to keep working away as before to ensure that our community and our society become evermore enlightened and professional in this field. But all this work would come to naught without the right response from those who, whether on hard copy, on computer screen or whichever new format might be thrown up by the breakneck pace of progress, place their trust in us and underpin the success of this review, whose twenty fifth birthday we are so proudly celebrating today.
My thanks go to everyone who has made this review
possible throughout this whole period. To its successive
editors: Raúl García Ovejero, Filomeno Mira, Francisco
Martínez and, at present, José Luis Ibáñez.To all its
collaborators and to Editorial MAPFRE.Without their
selfless abnegation and enthusiasm we would never have got
where we are today and this publication would not be what
it is: a beacon of light, almost the only one, in the Spanish
language, in the field of company risk management. Our
thanks go out to all of you, especially our readers.Without
them, without their stimulus, this moment would never
have come.
Heartfelt and sincere congratulations for these first twenty five years
